Xilma Ortiz-Gonzalez

Xilma received her BS degree from the University of Puerto Rico – Cayey University College. In 1997, Xilma entered the combined MD/PhD program at the University of Minnesota. In 1999, Xilma joined the Neurosurgery research lab where she has been developing ex-vivo NGF gene therapy using adult stem cells to ameliorate cognitive deficits associated with cholinergic degeneration of the mammalian basal forebrain. Recently, Xilma received a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health to promote her research on the use of MAPCs for cellular repair/replacement in the CNS.
